P.S. The evolution of humor itself is a scientific mystery. Here's one idea:

I personally agree with Jones. I look at many people, even at Rice, and realize without human ingenuity, that they (including me) would not exist. The advent of glasses has turned more and more people into successes, and soon, most of the population will need glasses. The eye isn't evolving; it's deteriorating! This would've been fatal several million years ago, and debilitating several hundred years ago (potentially leading to death from poverty). But what I feel Jones fails to take into consideration is the different developmental levels of countries. His theory holds true in developed countries, but over half of the world's population lives in developing countries, which is where the most population growth is and where they don't adhere to these theories. Young women still marry older men and modern medicine isn't as prevalent to save them from a disease. As the world slowly industrializes, though, then Jones's argument will have more merit.
